An introduction to Vectorworks with Tom White

Monday 20th May 

This session will be run in 2 x 2.5hr sessions


10am - 12.30pm

The sessions will break down like this: 

2hr 30m session (including 10m break)

Intro whip round the UI

Intro explanation of Spotlight

Intro to Layers and Classes

Organisation panel

Design layers/Sheet layers/Viewports


LUNCH


2hr 30m: (including 10m break)

Importing/Exporting

Import PDF takes about 10 minutes, Import DWG would take around 30minutes to teach (including User and internal origins and import options).

Printing to various scale sizes on conventional printers and plotters

Then taking an existing plan and dropping on some speakers

Using the resource manager v drawing speakers yourself (how to get the best out of dispersion here)

Arrays

Key useful tools for sound/speakers - Mirror, measure, rotation, move by points

Align and distribute functions, (Duplicate along path would be good)

Measure and dimension tools





About Tom White

Tom White, Vectorworks Senior Solutions SpecialistAfter graduating from Middlesex University in 2004, Tom started at The Bush Theatre in London as the Chief technician, followed by working as a freelance tech at The Roundhouse in Camden. Tom then became head of Lighting at LFO from 2007 to 2010 and then Head of Lighting for Regents Park Open Air Theatre in 2010. This was followed by 4 years of international touring with Propeller Theatre Company where he was responsible for the lighting design on tour, After Propellor Tom re-lit numerous UK tours for Frantic Assembly and Re-lights and adaptations for ETO. More recently Tom was the Deputy Chief Electrician and EOS programmer at Bath Theatre Royal. Tom’s Vectorworks Drafting has included projects for St Petersburg Ballet Theatre, Welsh National Opera and The National Theatre of Great Britain, among others. Tom has also worked as a lighting designer since 2004 and in 2021 won the What’s Onstage ‘Offie’ award for best Lighting Design of a Play. Tom is now the Senior Solutions Specialist (Entertainment) with Vectorworks.
