About Bobby Aitken - Sound Designer

Bobby Aitken has been involved with theatrical sound design for over 30 years. He has worked both in the UK and around the world, designing in small-scale theatres to grand arenas, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics.

For the National: Standing at the Sky’s Edge

Other productions include: The Beggar’s Opera and Bartholomew Fair at the RSC; Tammy Faye at the Almeida; Apollo 11 on US tour; The Nutcracker at Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Royal Albert Hall; The Divide at the Old Vic; Mackie Messer at Salzburg Festival; Sweeney Todd at the Israeli National Opera; Blast! in London and the USA; and Return to the Forbidden Planet in London, the USA, Japan and Australia; Lennon on Broadway; and Ghost (also on Broadway and internationally), Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia! (also on Broadway), We Will Rock You, Grease (also internationally), Show Boat, Five Guys Named Moe (also on UK tour) and From a Jack to a King in the West End.

Opera

Productions include: Carmen, Madame Butterfly, Aida, Tosca, La bohème, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci at the Royal Albert Hall.

Other sound design includes: Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains in London and Rome.



About Jonas Roebuck - Associate Sound Designer

Jonas trained at Central School of Speech and Drama, where he studied Sound Design and Sound Production. 

He is currently Sound and Video Supervisor in the Olivier Theatre, where he manages a team to deliver all the sound and video requirements including; implementing sound designs, overseeing all sound requirements for show captures including NT Live and NT at Home, facilitating numerous events and working closely with industry partners to maintain and develop systems that provide the tools for creative teams to deliver shows. 

Jonas has Production Engineered a wide variety of productions such as; HEX, Translations, Amadeus, Twelfth Night, Threepenny Opera, Les Blanc and Everyman. 

He Production Engineered Standing At the Sky’s Edge when it was at Sheffield’s Crucible theatre and then the Olivier Theatre where he worked closely with Bobby Aitken the Sound Designer to deliver the sound system across both venues. He then went on to be the Associate Sound Designer when it transferred to the Gillian Lynne.

He’s also been Sound Designer on a number of events including Up Next Gala 2019 and Connections Festival. He was the Associate Sound Designer on Small Island and Paradise. 

Jonas has been an opening operator on shows including Follies, Hadestown, Wonder.Land and the National Theatre's 50th live broadcast. He has dialogue mixed and production engineered numerous live theatre broadcasts to cinemas including The Cherry Orchard at Galway Blackbox Theatre, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern at Old Vic Theatre and Saint Joan at the Donmar.


About Merlin O'Brian - No'1 

Merlin has been working in sound in the West End for over fifteen years. She started her career on Dirty Dancing and has worked extensively in the West End on shows such as Matilda, Beautiful, Bend It Like Beckham and Legally Blonde. Her Head of Sound credits include Crazy For You, Grease, Jersey Boys and 9 to 5. Merlin is currently Head of Sound on Standing At The Sky’s Edge.
