Jo Franklin studied BA (Hons) in Drama at Aberystwyth, then trained in Stage Management at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She worked as a stage manager in a wide variety of contexts including repertory theatres (Northern Stage, Nottingham Playhouse, Watford Palace, Leicester Haymarket), on tour (commercial tours and English Touring Theatre), in the West End and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon and the Barbican.
She initially worked for GSA in stage and production management before moving into teaching on the BA (Hons.) in Theatre Production. She completed both her Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and MA in Higher Education at Surrey. This has lead to a growing interest in pedagogical research, particularly in the performing arts and their facilitation.
Since 2016 she has been Head of Technical Theatre Arts, with overall responsibility for all technical theatre and production provision/support within GSA.
She continues to undertake professional stage management, most recently as Stage Manager for large scale community opera projects for Surrey Arts.
She was formerly External Examiner for the FdA & BA (Hons) Production & Technical Arts: Stage & Screen at LAMDA (University of Kent), the BA (Hons) Stage and Production Management at East 15 (University of Essex) and currently for he Diploma in Technical & Production Management at Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore.
